Objectives  
Since Taiwan joined the World Trade Organization (WTO), the interaction of economics and trade between nations and Taiwan has become more regular.
Additionally, in order to reinforce economics and trade with neighboring countries, Regional Economic Cooperation rises and develops. The main purpose of ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation (APT) and ASEAN Free Trade Area is to facilitate the establishment of free trade area in East Asia, to intensify trade relations among East Asia nations, and to compete with EU and NAFTA. In such tensions of East Asia economics and trade, globalization is imperative for Taiwan.
For the sake of integration with the world, we expect to cultivate devoted elites possessed languages proficiency and concerned with foreign affairs, which will benefit the long-term relations between nations and Taiwan.
In order to forward the national development in the future, this department takes the lead in designing the teaching methods of languages and literature especially aimed at regional major countries. Both programs of languages and literature and programs of social science are the key features of our curriculum. Moreover, we also anticipate attaining targets of skill development in languages, politics, economics, and social development in East Asia.

Curriculum Design  
1. In order to meet multiple needs of Taiwan society and economics, our department intends to cultivate professionals who excel at Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other languages in East Asia, quality of humanism, and professional ethics. Students admitted for this department will be entering the three programs respectively: Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. The guidelines of three programs will principally concentrate on researches into Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Cultural political economy in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam will be the secondary teaching focuses.
2. This department is aimed at cultivation of professionals equipped with foreign languages and international perspectives. In order to enrich students’ knowledge of language proficiency and social science, we design formal training courses and execute oversea studies programs, research projects, academic-industrial exchange and certification granting, and foreign languages conversation interaction. We encourage students to study in overseas sister schools so as to enrich their language abilities and facilitate them to deepen their understanding of difference in politics, economics, and social culture in East Asia nations; simultaneously, this department arranges short-term studies programs for students of our sister schools, which will enhance their keenness of languages and cultures in each nation. Otherwise, students will accumulate knowledge and experience through internship in related companies both in Taiwan and abroad, which also foster industry-university cooperation.
3. This department offers courses on languages, social sciences research in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam so as to equip students with knowledge associated with regional languages and social cultures.

In order to achieve objectives of this department, our languages and social sciences programs are based on East Asia language ability and social cultures learning and research. We devote ourselves to cultivating foreign and international affairs professionals for both public and private sectors. We intend to primarily develop “East Asia Languages and Literatures” in teaching research. Via source integration, we are able to promote overall efficiency of this department; through technical combination of academic achievement, students are able to broaden and deepen their proficiency and interests in this field of knowledge.
